Tortoise craft & art work

This week we read and made a craft for the book The Foolish Tortoise by Richard Buckley & Eric Carle.

This is a simple story that demonstrates how we should appreciate what we are blessed with and that there is a good reason why Allah made us a certain way.

In the Qur’an Allah says:

“…and it may be that you dislike a thing which is good for you and that you like a thing which is bad for you. Allaah knows but you do not know.” (Surah Baqarah: 216)

We made a paper plate tortoise, again using techniques we used for our paper plate whale. This time we used stamping technique to create the pattern on the shell.

Stamping the pattern on the tortoise shell using a rolled up corrugated piece of cardboard

Since he was having so much fun stamping, I decided to do a backdrop for the tortoise using different painting tools we found around the home.

Stroking up paint to create "grass"

I dropped blobs of green and yellow paint on the bottom part of the page. DS2 used a stalk of lemon grass ends to smear the paint to create grass effect.

Dabbing J-cloth scarp to make sky

Using bubble wrap patches to create clouds
